With the last firmware version and a earlier version of LMS, I think it was 8.0.0, it worked perfectly, but with the versions mensioned above the firmware update failes. The playback has to bee bitperfect, what ever that meens, that this update process is working.

McIntosh has a pdf document in which they explain how to set up the connection with jriver for bitperfect playback. I do have a DAC where firmware updates are aplyed by playing a 24 bit wav file. Before I was using foobar2000 on the same laptop without issues (although I cannot confirm bitperfect playback from foobar2000, since I do not know how to check this).
I think I have tried everything, but it seems like the McIntosh does not accept a bitperfect stream from roon. Support for AirPlay (requires OS X 10.8 and above). As soon as I engage Exclusive Mode, the sound starts skipping like a dirty record or even worse roon just skips all songs and does nothing. Integer Mode playback - on supported DACs and supported versions of OS X (requires OS X 10.9 and above). I've a Mac mini connected to a DAC through USB.
The wired MacPro/mini way is even more 'audiophile' (actually it's perfect from an audio point of view). I am using a laptop as client, connect via USB to the built in DAC of my McIntosh MA7900.
